How to ACTUALLY Start Running

What I Wish I Knew at the Beginning...

Here are tips on how to actually start running, aka what I wish I had known before I started.

1- Take the pressure off in the beginning
✦TO GO FAR, GO SLOW: Start slow to build endurance
✦ Choose a route in advance: a loop? an out-and-back?

2- Trainers
✦ We all have different feet, super important to get the right size (might sound obv but I got this wrong in the beginning) I go up 1/2/1 full size in running trainers.
✦ Go to trainer shop to try some on, some offer free gait analysis to see what suits your foot best!

3- Fuel Your Workouts
✦ Eat a carb-focused meal a couple hours before you run. A mix of simple carbs like toast & complex carbs like fruit & wholegrains.
✦ If you run first thing in the AM, try something smaller like a banana with peanut butter 30 mins before your run

4- My Top Running Tips
✦ Do a 5 min dynamic warm up: leg swings, high knees. butt kicks to get muscles ready & reduce injury risk
✦ Aim for a time running before a distance goal
✦ Try walk/run intervals, jog for 3-5 mins, walk for 1-2 mins & repeat X4-6

5- Add Strength Training
✦ At least 2-3x per week
✦ Focus on core, legs & upper body
✦ Strength training enhances power, endurance & prevents injuries

6- Prioritise Recovery!
✦ Stretch post-run
✦ Stick to a sleep schedule
✦Taking at least I-2 rest days weekly
